Social Specialties-ASD

My first post on my new blog. It is interesting that I am here, I always felt I wasn't the best writer, however I have things to talk about. Who knows if anyone will read this? I will put it out there and see what happens.

So, who am I? My name is Erika Daman, I live in Michigan. I have been a special education teacher for 21 years. I spent 20 years in Romulus and this year I started in Ann Arbor. Starting this blog made me think about how I got where I am today and to be honest with you it is hard to believe how much my life has changed in the last year.

On the personal side, I am married to Jeff and have two grown children, Alec and Angelia. My children are both attending college and playing sports (ice hockey and springboard diving) for their colleges. Both are doing well and I look forward to them to start "adulting." This is the first time we have had no children at home, well now with the closure of everything my girl is back home. My husband and I have enjoyed getting to know one another again as just a couple.

I am passionate about understanding people with Autism and spreading awareness of how amazing they can be. I have become a better human due to the people I have encountered with Autism. I can't wait to share with you the many things I have learned. I hope you find some inspiration or knowledge from it! I look forward to getting to share what 21 years in special education has taught me and just growing older. It has been quite a ride.    Hope this finds someone's interest!
